Can Squats Actually Burn Thigh Fat?

“Want slimmer thighs? Do 100 squats.” Three days later, sitting down feels like an advanced exercise—but your body has not followed the reel’s timetable.

Squats are great. The promise is the problem.

Squats train your legs and glutes. They can improve strength, movement and everyday function. They cannot direct your body to remove stored fat from your thighs first.

If overall body fat gradually changes while you maintain or build muscle, your legs may look different over time. That is a body-composition change, not targeted fat burning.

Choose exercises by function

  • Squat to become stronger at squatting, lifting and standing.
  • Progress gradually instead of chasing hundreds of repetitions.
  • Support fat loss with appropriate portions and regular movement.
  • Do not avoid strength training because you fear becoming “bulky.”
