100 Crunches a Day for a Flat Belly?

Your stomach feels tight after 100 crunches. Your abs are tired. Surely the belly fat must be disappearing? Not necessarily.

Strong abs and less belly fat are different goals

Crunches train abdominal muscles. They do not tell your body to use the fat directly above those muscles. You can build a stronger core without seeing an immediate change around your stomach.

Your belly can also look different because of bloating, food volume, digestion or posture. Not every daily change is body fat.

What to focus on instead

  • Use core exercises to build strength and control.
  • Strength train the rest of your body too.
  • Plan meals with enough protein and fibre.
  • Walk and move regularly outside your workouts.
